Houston Shooting

A shooting in Houston’s Acres Homes neighborhood on Saturday, November 4, 2023, left two people dead and three critically injured. The incident occurred in the 1200 block of Missouri Street around 4:30 PM. According to the Houston Police Department (HPD), officers found multiple victims with gunshot wounds upon arrival. The shooting is believed to have stemmed from a dispute, possibly domestic-related, that escalated into gunfire.
Carlos Xander Guevara, 36, was arrested near the scene after a brief standoff and is facing multiple charges, including murder. Investigators say Guevara allegedly opened fire on a group gathered outside a home, possibly celebrating a birthday. The identities of the two victims pronounced dead at the scene, a male and a female, are being withheld pending notification of their families.
Three adults were taken to local hospitals in critical condition, with one undergoing surgery on Saturday evening. HPD Chief Troy Finner expressed condolences to the affected families and urged the community to provide any relevant information. The shooting has raised concerns among residents in Acres Homes, a neighborhood that has struggled with violent crime.
The HPD is investigating, canvassing the area for witnesses, and collecting evidence, including ballistic reports. Preliminary findings suggest multiple firearms were involved. Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner released a statement, reaffirming the city’s commitment to addressing gun violence and supporting the impacted community. The incident has sparked renewed calls for stricter gun control and increased mental health resources in the city. The HPD continues to investigate the shooting, focusing on understanding the dispute’s context and ensuring justice for the victims and their families.
